Smart Solar PV Optimization System with MPPT, Real-Time Fault Detection & Auto-Disconnect for Grid Stability (EU-GREEN)

We are preparing a project demonstration and poster presentation focused on solar power optimization. Our work addresses the challenges of energy loss and safety risks in photovoltaic (PV) systems due to shading, faults, and panel degradation.

We have developed a smart embedded system that integrates:

Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT): to maximize energy harvesting.

Real-Time Fault Detection: to identify faults such as overvoltage, mismatch, or short circuits.

Automatic Panel Disconnection: faulty panels are isolated without disturbing the rest of the array.

IoT Monitoring & Control: system status and alerts are sent to a cloud-based dashboard.

Expected Results:

Up to 15% higher energy efficiency compared to conventional systems.

Faster fault detection (<3 second) to improve safety and reduce risks.

Lower maintenance costs and improved system reliability.

Impact:

This solution contributes to safer and more reliable PV plants, supports the EU Green Deal and Net-Zero targets, and can be scaled for grid-tied systems and hybrid microgrids.

We will present the system with a poster and hardware demo, highlighting both technical innovation and its potential impact on the solar industry.
